Guided shore dives take place in La Jolla’s Underwater Park. This
is a reserve and has been since the early 70’s. This means there
is no fishing or taking of anything, which makes it great for us
divers. You will most likely be taken to La Jolla Canyon because it
is an easily controlled and unique kind of diving. Diving here is a
bit unpredictable, which makes it fun, because you never really
know what you’ll run across. Getting a guide is HIGHLY
recommended for anybody who hasn’t had experience shore diving
in San Diego.
The La Jolla Underwater Park is our back yard and the OEX staff
dives here daily. You won't find dive masters who know this area
any better OR who enjoy showing it off to new people more.
We make a shore dive easy and enjoyable - you just meet us at
our La Jolla shop, which is located just one block from the beach,
and we'll cart your gear down to the shore for you. Our shop is the
only dive shop within walking distance of La Jolla's Underwater
Park.
Please note: these are guided tours and your guide has had
extensive training in dealing with divers unfamiliar with the area.
But it is not a Scuba course so if you feel like you need extra care
and more training, or if you can’t quite remember how to hook up
your gear, i.e. a Refresher Course, let us know and there will be a
different curriculum. We offer Refresher Courses and private
guided dives for those so inclined.
Please bring your certification card with you. If you are a PADI
certified diver and forget your card, we can look up your
credentials online. If have been certified by any other agency, as
of this writing, you will need to bring your certification card or log
book or you will not be able to dive with us. There will be a $50
charge if this happens.
