Meet Team OEX
Brent “Capt. Torgy” Torgeson
Torgy has his 100-ton Captain’s license and an amazing Palapa that he built
in his back yard.  What does one have to do with the other?  Nothing but we
promised him we’d mention it.  Brent is an avid fisherman who has fished
and dove all around the world.  In the Mediterranean for Giant Bluefin,
Bahamas for Bonefish, Fiji for Wahoo, and he has a place in Cabo where he
frequently fishes for Marlin, Yellow Fin, Dorado and Rooster Fish.   Brent has
a wife, Staci, and a two year old daughter named Riley.  Want to see Riley in
training for those days when the surge in La Jolla is extra strong?
 Watch this
but don’t try it at home!
John “Red” Metzger
John went from spaz in his first pool session in 1994 to PADI IDC Staff
Instructor in just a few short years.  He went from hovering upside down in
the water on accident to hovering upside down on purpose.  He’s certified
hundreds of divers since and has made it his quest to find a student who
started out as uncoordinated as him.  Good luck, John, there’s one out
there.  Apart from diving, John has a daughter, Sienna, and a wife Lissa,
who he thinks may be part monkey.  He also plays in a band called Agave
with some guys he met while teaching Scuba.  His brother, Jim, is below.
Jim "Duck'n Water" Metzger
Jim has been a diver for over ten years.  His pictures are all over the website
and you can ask him to take a picture of you underwater too.  As an IDC-Staff
Instructor, the Specialties he teaches include Peak Performance Buoyancy,
Project Aware, AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty, Deep, Multilevel
Diver, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigator, Search & Recovery,
Equipment Specialist, Night Diver, Underwater Photographer, and Wreck.
Jim is also certified to teach Emergency First Response w/Care For
Child/Infant/AED.  He is PSI certified to inspect scuba cylinders and repairs
everything from tank valves to BCD power inflators.  Blah blah blah, big deal,
right?  We figure Jim won't read his bio this far, probably you won't either, so
let's add some stuff here and see if he notices.  Here goes: Jim has a
tendency to draw pictures of unicorns covered in sprinkles.  He believes them
to be his pets and dives daily in search of an underwater oasis where the
unicorns bathe.  We call him Sensitive Jim behind his back.

Chris “Tsunami” Shordon
Chris runs our Mission Bay shop and for those of you going out on the
Humboldt, you’ll probably be dealing with Chris.  Just don’t make eye contact
and everything will be fine.  Actually, Chris is an ANDI EAN blender, a Master
Scuba Diver Trainer, Manager of OEX Mission Bay and a personal trainer on
the side.  Not bad for a guy who’s business license says “Dive Pig.”
  Tom Gray
Tom is an experienced Instructor at OEX and we’re working hard to rid him of his
Pittsburghian accent.  Tom’s priorities are having a good time, diving, instructing,
working on the Humboldt, and having a good time.  Luckily they’re all about the
same.  Tom’s diving experience has mostly been local Southern California so he’s
considered an “expert” in our waters.  Wow.
Brian "Boy" Long
He's just a good old boy, never meaning no harm...well, you know how the rest
of how that goes.  Brian runs our Point Loma store and is a Kayak fishing guru.
He can take a bare kayak and turn it into a fishing battleship.  Don't believe us?
Come in and check out his baby on display!  His hobbies include, fishing,
fishing, fishing and rigging kayaks to fish.  Oh and be sure to read Brian's article
on
kayak fishing, we're not kidding, this is all the guy will talk about!
Jesse “Goose” Casellini
Goose is on the UCSD water polo team
which means he’s absurdly good in the
water.  And yes, he does wear
Speedos.  And yes, he might wear them
walking on the streets of La Jolla.  And
if you come in to OEX and you see him
in his Speedo’s and scream “Can I get
a GOOSE?!!”, then you will receive 10%
off the admission to see Goose dance
in his Speedos.  This will take place
outside of OEX and after store hours, of
course.
Congrats to
Jesse for
being named
the 2006
WWPA
conference
player of the
year for
men's
waterpolo!
Lee “Wally” Davis
He doesn’t know yet that his nickname is Wally, we’ll break that to him soon.  But
the man can surf and does most of our surf lessons.  And now that he dives too,
when the waves are small he can ditch his board for an hour and see what’s
going on underneath.

Karma Crampton
A cool diver chick!  They rule!  Karma is a Divemaster whose only problem diving is her leaky mask
because she smiles the whole dive so her mask won’t seal.  It’s a little creepy but contagious.
Karma will make you smile even if she has to punch you in the neck.  Her husband, Travis, is always
tired trying to keep up with Karma.

  Josh Tiernan
Josh spends most of his time at OEX La Jolla.  The best part about the staff’s morning is showing
up in La Jolla and finding out how Josh has fixed his hair.  Spiked, parted to the side, pushed
forward, groomed back- it’s always a pleasant surprised.  The impressive part is how it stays
stylish even after three kayak tours in one day!  Josh is also a BCU certified kayak guide and has
names for most of La Jolla’s Sea Lions.

Iren “El Madre” Miklos
The Mother of OEX, Iren has been around watching over us like a deity since our inception in 1995.  Her husband
is one of the head engineers at Scubapro so she knows how to pick ‘em.  Iren makes sure our noses are clean
and our books are neat, and if they’re not, it’s a whipping with a wet noodle.

Lissa Metzger and Staci Torgeson
Johnny, excuse me, John, wrote something incredibly funny for our bio as the marketing and publicity team for
OEX and more importantly, wives to John and Brent and most importantly, mother's to the future owners of OEX,
Sienna Crae and Riley Genna.  We were about to copy it in here word for word and then we remembered, hey,
those guys don't know how to make updates on their website, so we can say whatever we want, then we realized
that what he wrote is quite true, so here is our favorite part: "Yes, they married John & Brent and we know what
you’re thinking, 'Whoa! What’s wrong with them?  They look smarter than that!'  But it really boils down to
patience.  Lots of patients.  Really mounds and mounds of patience.  So much patience.  And booze."
