DiveTrippers

Don’t forget to check our online forum for dive conditions, chat on gear and updates on what the water’s doing. We have the advantage of being down the street from San Diego’s best shore diving so we’re in the water every day that the weather will allow. On Divetrippers, you can register, post, or just read what’s going on with local diving.

Dive News Alert
La Jolla Shores

Attention La Jolla Shores Divers: There was a rash of burglaries at the La Jolla Shores water park in March, which included reported losses at the lifeguard tower and several cars in the parking lot. Please be careful to lock your cars, conceal all valuables in your trunk, and, if possible, dive with your car keys. If you’re diving during store hours, feel free to leave your keys with us trustworthy folks here at OEX!

Scuba diver swims ashore 10 hours after disappearing

A Sioux Falls man was swept out to sea in a strong current while scuba diving off Cancun, Mexico. Don Roesler and some friends were exploring a sunken Navy ship when a strong current came up and pulled him a half-mile from the other divers. He surfaced and began blowing his whistle. He could see the dive boat but could not be heard because he was downwind. Within 2 hours there were 10 boats and 4 wave runners looking for him. An incoming thunderstorm prevented the diver from being found due to high wind and heavy seas. After battling rain, wind and big swells, Roesler saw the lights of a small island. After taking another drink of rain water from his mask, Roesller began to kick and paddle in that direction. The wind and current being with him he finally made to shore after a 10-hour ordeal. He was assisted by some surprised tourists and was back diving the same wreck two days later.

Dive Site Spotlight
coronados sea lions

The “Nods” are in Mexican waters and take about an hour to reach. The area’s “easiest” dive and closest conditions to what many are used to in the Caribbean. Most of the diving at the Nods is done on the lee side of the island so the water is protected from the oncoming swells. This makes for calmer and clearer waters and makes a nice home for Sea Lions and Harbor Seals. They’re used to divers here so expect to swim with them on your dive.

Los Coronados just happens to be the destination for the Humboldt's first official trip on the morning of May 25th. Did we mention that there is a special offer for newsletter subscribers who book their Humboldt trips this month? Scroll on down to the end of the newsletter to see!

Malibu Kayaks Mini-X
mini

If you fish or dive the Mini-X can't be beat! With flush mount rod holders, round hatches, and a large center hatch it's the best fishing kayak in it's class.

The same features that make it a great fishing and diving boat also make it perfect for other sports. Stability, speed, comfort, reliability, storage space (and easy access to it), and the availability of many, many low profile (which translates to low snag) accessories are just a few reasons these boats have taken the market by storm.

The Mini-X features an optional 10" round hatch in the front with removable bucket and room for storage on top.

In the center, there is an optional large hatch with a removable bag, self draining trays, cup holder, 2 deluxe carry handles with paddle holders and a very specious/comfortable dry seating area.

And in the back is a nice size tankwell area with room enough for a 5 gal. bait tank, file crate and more... Also features an optional placement for a 10" round hatch with removable bucket.

Our Point Loma store is the Malibu Kayaks Factory Outlet so stop by any time to learn more about the Mini- X and the other great Malibu Kayaks!
