Q: What is the average water temp?
A: We always dive with at least a 7mm wetsuit and usually with a hood. Average temps are as
follows:

These averages are surface temperatures and they can drop 5-10 degrees F at depth.
Q: What is your Client to Guide ratio for shore diving in La Jolla?
A: It is almost always 2 to 1. Exceptions are rare.
Q: What are the credentials of your dive guides?
A: Our guides are at least a PADI Divemaster and have been through extensive training here
in La Jolla. Because of our shop’s proximity to the best shore diving in San Diego, our guides
know the area better than anybody.
Q: What is the expected visibility?
A: Visibility can change quickly. Average visibility is around 15’ but sometimes better,
sometimes worse.
Q: What is the best time of year to dive?
A: We dive all year-round here. Generally, though, it is consistently calmer in the summer and
fall but we can have excellent diving at anytime of the year.
Q: What is the expected depth of the dive?
A: We usually hug the La Jolla Canyon wall that lies at around 50’-60’.
Q: How long will the dive take?
A: Actual bottom times vary of course but you can expect to spend three hours of your day with
us from the time you step into the shop until the time you leave.
Q: How long have you been conducting Discover Local Diving’s in La Jolla?
A: Since we opened doors in 1995.
Q: What time are the dives?
A: We like to go out in the morning when the water tends to be calmer but we can schedule
dives anytime.
Q: Do you do night dives?
A: Yes, but we would like to make sure you have experience in California’s waters before we go
out at night.
Q: What does a guided shore dive cost?
A: Guided shore dives are $60 per diver, plus gear. Please check our current price list for
accuracy here.
Q: Are there any cancellation charges?
A: You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance. After that, there is a $50 fee.
